Famous Import Car Shows

The Import Racing Scene is a reference to the subculture that has evolved around the process of modifying imported cars (called imports) for street racing. In most cases, the cars are of Japanese origin. This phenomenon has increased by several orders of magnitude through the Hollywood products like Fast and the Furious that appealed to the speed loving generation. While initially this whole scene involved and was targeted solely to males, the increasing number of females that are showing a high degree of interest has caused the market to change in that there are now specific advertisements targeted specifically at females.

The origin of the Import racing scene may be traced back to the unprecedented Import Showoff. The modified models of cars are frequently displayed at car shows like Extreme Auto fest, Hot Import Nights, Driven to Perform, and NOPI. Hot Import Nights is one of the biggest car shows that reach a quarter of a million car enthusiasts through more than 20 events all over the United States. Local vendors show up in full force at these car shows to sell modification accessories and products to car enthusiasts. Other sponsors and vendors are also there to appeal to the younger generation that was, until recently, predominantly males interested in modified cars. Spokesmodels are also quite prominent at most events and they are also used as attractions and also to pose for photographs with the modified cars. The spokesmodels are also referred to as booth babes or import models and they are inseparable from the whole Import Racing Scene. Music is also an expected feature at these shows.

International car shows are important to car manufacturers as it gives them a chance to show their latest and best cars to international buyers. Every international car show that is held anywhere on the world is provided as a similar platform for global car manufacturers where they can meet, share expertise and ideas, and announce their plans for the future. International car shows have also gained popularity with the public in recent times as their level of conduct and presentation style has undergone many revisions to make it all possess more appeal. The United States alone is home to many international car shows and these include Washington Auto Show, South Florida Auto Show, Seattle International Auto Show, North American International Auto Show, New York International Auto Show, Greater Minneapolis and Saint Paul International Auto Show, Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, and Chicago Auto Show.

The Greater Los Angeles Auto Show takes place every year in the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. This show has been around since 1907. The very first time it was conducted at Morley's Skating Rink. Until 2006 the show was always held in the month of January but starting from 2006 it was shifted to the November so that it did not get into competition with the North American International Auto Show. In 2006 two shows were held, one each in January and November. The November show was referred to as the 2007 show.

The Greater Los Angeles Auto Show is also the second United States' show to receive official recognition from the Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles. 2006 was also the year when the first show after this recognition took place. It is expected that this recognition will increase the international popularity of the show and attract many more car manufacturers to visit and display their cars here.

Hot Import Nights (HIN) is more focused on tuner import cars. This show also originated in California and from it has gone on to many other cities in the United States. Hot Import Nights typically hosts one-night events in many cities and it does about 2 events each month. The show is open for everyone to visit but it is not free. Admission is based on ticket availability with each person being charged $25 to $30. The fee is slightly higher for people who wish to display their own vehicles. Besides the vehicles, each Hot Import Nights event also features several female models for promotional purposes. The models are used for product promotion in the various booths and also as an added attraction to the predominantly male visitors to the show. Though the show does not have any age restrictions, parental discretion is still recommended as some of the models can have quite revealing outfits.

There are some parts of these events that are quite frequently seen on the Street Fury program. These programs show interaction between the host and car owners while discussing the modifications made to vehicles.
